International Data Farming Workshop 14

Important Dates:

Please let us know if you are attending the opening dinner, and select your choice of entree (grilled mediterranean vegetables, roast prime rib of beef, or porcini encrusted sea bass) for the opening dinner by 20 March 2007.

There is some space available for dinner guests, which will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you plan to bring a guest, notify us by 20 March 2007 of their name and choice of entree. The cost for guests is $50 (collected in cash at the door).

20 March 2007 is also the last date to request a full refund of a prepaid registration fee (see details below).

International participants should register (or notify us of intent to register) by 20 February 2007.

The Portola Plaza room block is full, but Monterey has many fine hotels. The Monterey Marriot and Hotel Pacific are near Fishermans Wharf; the Hilton and the Hyatt are near NPS. If you need assistance making lodging arrangements, contact John Wasser at jswasser@nps.edu for assistance.

Tentative Agenda

Sunday 25 March: Opening dinner, Portola Plaza, gather at 6 o'clock
Monday 26 March: Opening briefings, Portola Plaza, 0800-1230, followed by lunch
        1400-1700: Work in teams at NPS or Portola Plaza; concurrent Executive Session at NPS
Tuesday 27 March - Thursday 29 March: Work in teams at NPS; concurrent plenary sessions during the mornings
Friday 30 March: Team Briefouts and Closing Ceremony at Portola Plaza; start at 0800, finish by noon
Conference Fee:

Participation by non-US citizens who are not currently NPS faculty or students is by invitation only. If this is you -- and you have not received an invitation from Susan Sanchez, Tom Lucas, or Gary Horne but are interested in attending -- please send e-mail to datafarming@verizon.net to request an invitation.

The registration fee is $496 (the third "perfect number").

If you prepaid your registration fee and find you are unable to attend, you may request a full or partial refund. Please send e-mail to datafarming@verizon.net with subject line REQUEST FOR REFUND OF IDFW14 REGISTRATION FEE. The e-mail should come from the e-mail submitted with the registration. Requests received after March 20, 2007 will be subject to a $50 processing fee.

Airport/Transport Information:

There are three airports you can fly into that provide good access to Monterey.

  1. Monterey Peninsula Airport, just 10 minutes from the hotel. Taxi service to the hotel is approximately $15.
  2. San Jose International Airport, about 60-90 minutes drive from Monterey, depending on traffic conditions. Shuttle service is available to Monterey and the hotel from the airport, at $35 one-way.   3. San Francisco International Airport. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours for the trip to Monterey, depending on traffic conditions. Shuttle service is available to Monterey and the hotel, at $40 one-way. For information, go to http://www.portolaplazahotel.com/maps-directions-monterey.cfm

Parking at the Portola Plaza: self-parking is $14 per day; valet parking is $17 per day (with in and out privileges).

Parking at NPS is extremely limited. We request that people carpool, with NPS faculty/students when possible.
